About Urticaria:

Urticaria, also known as urticaria, is an outbreak of swollen, pale red bumps or plaques (wheels) on the skin that appear suddenly — either as a result of the body’s reaction to certain allergens, or for unknown reasons.

Urticaria usually causes itching, but may also burn or sting. They can appear anywhere on the body, including the face, lips, tongue, throat, or ears. Urticaria vary in size (from a pencil eraser to a dinner plate), and may join together to form larger areas known as plaques. They can last for hours, or up to one day before fading.

Angioedema is similar to urticaria, but the swelling occurs beneath the skin instead of on the surface. Angioedema is characterized by deep swelling around the eyes and lips and sometimes of the genitals, hands, and feet. It generally lasts longer than Urticaria, but the swelling usually goes away in less than 24 hours.

Rarely, angioedema of the throat, tongue, or lungs can block the airways, causing difficulty breathing. This may become life-threatening. Kalpataru Ayurvediya Chikitsalaya™ provides the best Ayurvedic Urticaria Treatment in Pune.

Types:

Urticaria can be acute or chronic.
  1. Acute urticaria is the most common type. Symptoms last less than 6 weeks, and they typically affect the face and neck, fingers, toes, and genitals of males. However, any part of the body can be affected.
  2. Chronic urticaria continues for more than 6 weeks. About 1 in every 1000 people is estimated to experience chronic urticaria. The exact cause is unknown, but it may link to the immune system. Viruses can also trigger Urticaria. In some cases, it may relate to an underlying autoimmune disorder, such as thyroid disease or lupus.
  3. Angioedema may also occur. This is similar to Urticaria, but it affects the deeper layers of the skin.

Signs & Symptoms:

  1. Swellings, known as wheels, appear as a rash on the skin. They are usually pink or red, with an oval or round shape. They can range from a few millimeters to several inches across. They can be extremely itchy, and they have a red flare around them.
  2. The wheels usually occur in batches, frequently on the face or the extremities, including the arms, hands, fingers, legs, feet, and toes.
  3. Welts normally disappear within 24 hours, but new ones may form. They can appear on just one part of the body, or on several parts.
  4. Symptoms normally disappear within 24 hours, but sometimes another weal appears as the last one fades.
  5. In some cases, Urticaria can continue for several days. People with chronic urticaria can have symptoms for months or years.

Causes - Ayurvedic Perspective:

  1. Junk food / fast food on a regular basis
  2. Protein-rich diet — especially dairy products, mushrooms, nuts,
    besan, meat, fish, sea foods.
  3. Exposure to extensive heat and cold
  4. Viruddha aahar
  5. Worm infestations
  6. Synthetic material clothing
  7. Hyperacidity

Home Remedies:

Triggers do not cause the problem, but they can aggravate symptoms, so patients should try to identify and avoid them.

This May Include:

  1. abstaining from or cutting down on alcohol
  2. avoiding certain medications
  3. avoiding stress, if possible, perhaps with meditation or relaxation techniques
  4. choosing some soaps, skin creams, and detergents that are mild.
  5. Avoiding certain foods may help. Foods known to trigger histamine production include spinach, fish, yogurt, fish, tomato, processed, meats, chocolate, and strawberries.

Tips To Reduce the Irritation Caused By Urticaria Include:

  1. wearing loose, light clothing
  2. avoiding scratching
  3. use soaps for sensitive skin
  4. use a shower, fan, cold water, lotion, or cool compresses to cool the area
  5. take an oatmeal bath with tepid water avoid known triggers
Some sources recommend supplements such as quercetin and evening primrose oil, and vitamin C, D and others. It is important to speak to a doctor before using supplements, as these can trigger adverse reactions. Keeping a record of flareups can help identify a trigger.

Treatment:

  1. Panchkarm i.e. body purification and detoxification procedures such as Vaman (Therapeutic emesis) and Virechana (Therapeutic purgation) and Raktamokshan (Blood letting) are very much effective in Urticaria treatment.
  2. Local applications of Sodium bicarbonate, black pepper, and kokam are effective home – remedies.
  3. Ayurvedic antiallergic and blood purifier medicines are of utmost importance in Urticaria treatment.
  4. Improving digestion, establishing regular motions, and controlling hyperacidity are necessary steps in the treatment of Urticaria.
