Accordingly to the eminent scholars of Ayurved Charak, Sushrut & Vagbhat Panchkarm is an integral part of Ayurved. They have given assurance that if the disease is treated with proper panchakaram procedure, it is cured permanently.
This panchakarma treatement is targeted primarily on tridosh (Three doshas viz. Vata, Pitta, Kapha). These three doshas are responsible for glood health when in equillibrium and create disease when this equlibrum is disturbed. There are certain procedures which are complementary to panchakarma like pachan, snehan and swedan. Some procedure are performed after panchakarma like Dhoom, Gandush, rasayan etc.
